Watching cartoons on Sunday…

I watch cartoons almost daily.  No, really, I do. 😉  Why?  Well, the reasons are many as well as both simple and complex.  For example, today I am watching cartoons (or rather listening at the moment), because I need to hear something familiar as well as I like to hear and see how life problems can be solved within two 11-minute segments–this is a possibility that makes me happy.

Actually, I don’t watch all cartoons.  To be quite frank, I have no idea what cartoons are actually on cable television these days (I am not a fan of what I have seen in the past, so…).  I am more a PBS kind of lady (You Go WGBH Boston!).  For example, I am an enormous fan of Marc Brown’s Arthur the Aardvark and Norman Bridwell’s Clifford the Big Red Dog.  I appreciate cartoons that have substance and tackle the issues that children may face in their everyday lives as well as more significant/traumatic events (such illness and death).

Watching cartoons reminds me that even the problems that I face as an adult are solvable.  Yes, adult problems may seem more challenging than those addressed on a children’s show.  However, what cartoons such as Arthur teaches the viewer is that all problems can be addressed and solved with the support of others and through taking responsibility for one’s part… no matter how old you are. 😉

So, today I am watching Arthur. 😉  It makes me happy.  It reminds me to be real.  It encourages my child/playful mind… And no matter how many times I have watched every episode, I manage to learn something new.  So, perhaps you should give it a try too. Today is as good a day as any to try…

Season 1, Episode 1: Arthur’s Eyes

(Deals with having difficulty of change and being verbally bullied.)

Season 15, Episode 2 (I believe) Prunella the Pack Rat

(Deals with the issue of hoarding as well as recycling and global warming.)

Hope you enjoy!

Best,

D.
