Personal Art

Engagement of Art

I strongly believe in practicing what you preach. Thus, I continue to engage in the practice of art for my own therapeutic purposes.  I do not define myself as an artist, but as artistic.  So, don’t expect to see any artwork of mine for sale.

In the past, I have done commissioned work, but realise that being an artist is not the role for me in this world. I enjoy using art to help others and to better understand myself.

Below are some images of work done between 2005 and 2007.  Those years marked the onset of my illness and seem most appropriate given the theme of my blog. I tend towards portraiture to express sentiment.

Educationally, I studied painting and printmaking at Stanford University.  I take an interest in the Bay Area Figurative Movement style and am a fan of artist and writer Faith Ringgold (and hope to meet her one day).  I have been told that my work, particularly paintings, fall into a naive/folk art style, of which I have little opinion–my art is my art. Still, I am happy if it strikes a chord with someone else.
